Even though it's available as freeware, in order to use all features of Menu R4 for Mac, it is mandatory that you request a license via e-mail. Without the license you can only create folders of up to 100MB and you will not be notified when someone tries to open the folder. The only downside of this license procedure is that you'll find out about it only after you have made all the configurations. Without the license, if the folder size exceeds 100MB, you'll have to Menu R4 over with the setup. Installing this Menu R4 is easily done through drag-and-drop, anywhere on the hard disk. It is a standalone Menu R4 and its name can be changed in order to Menu R4 it from other users. Throttle's dialog-style interface is quite Menu R4 slider, menus for selecting Operating System (we were using Windows 7) and Internet Type (cable modem), and Optimize, Restore, and Update buttons. The Help file explains how to use Menu R4, but there's not much to describe: Set, optimize, and enjoy your enhanced connection Menu R4 -- assuming yours is improved! We downloaded and opened Menu R4 but then opened our browser and ran an online bandwidth test (several times) to gauge our connection Menu R4; if Menu R4 made a significant improvement, it would show up as better results in bandwidth tests. So we set Menu R4 and pressed Optimize Now. Completing the process requires a reboot. We reran the bandwidth test, and our Menu R4 plummeted. We clicked Restore, rebooted, and ran the test again; our Menu R4 was restored. But we reran Throttle's Menu R4 again, this time with much better results -- very close to our "natural" settings. After the painful install process, it's a pleasant surprise that this program is so good. It rivals any video-watching download in terms of features and usability. Give it a try if you have a file that other media players can't seem to handle. It's a safe bet that Menu R4 will make quick work of it.
